OPERATION CLAUS
"Christmas Care”
What is “Christmas Care”?
Christmas Care was initiated in 1983 serving 50 local children with the help of 10 sponsors. Today the Christmas Care program serves over 1,000 children that reside in the United Way of Illinois Valley service area. In partnership with more than 80 community sponsors, the children receive Christmas presents of new clothing and toys. Business, Corporate, and individuals donors lent financial and In-kind support estimated to exceed $72,000 last year.

Who sponsors Christmas Care?
The Christmas Care program receives contributions from individuals, churches, business, financial institutions, local unions, and service organizations. Local group “Operation Claus” also sponsors the program by hosting a fundraising parade and an event highlighting local bands, food, and auctions. A generous portion of the proceeds is then used to purchase new toys. All Christmas Care donations are tax deductible. These funds enable the program to provide new toys and outfits to local children and their families. Sponsors are asked to provide one new outfit and an age appropriate toy for each child they sponsor. Inquiries regarding Christmas Care sponsorship may be made by calling the United Way office at 815-223-8339.
Who can volunteer for “Christmas Care”?
Any individual 21 years and older can be a volunteer. Volunteers come from churches, businesses, schools, community service organizations, corporations, associations, and interested individuals. There is help needed in organizing the project beginning early November. For a full schedule of volunteer times please call the United Way office at 815-223-8339 for more information.
